What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are the gold standard for replacing missing teeth. If you are missing one or more teeth, an implant may be an option for you. As with crowns and bridges, implants will look, feel, and function just like your natural teeth. Additionally, dental implants can also be used to support a dental prosthesis (denture) to allow for better function and quality of life. Dental implants have a 98% success rate and can last a lifetime.
What Are the Benefits of Dental Implants?
Dental implants have been around for decades and have many benefits. Some of the benefits include replacing missing teeth, maintaining facial shape, and distributing forces throughout the mouth to allow for easier chewing. Another benefit that our patients love is that dental implants are permanent, or fixed, in the mouth which means that you can confidently chew and smile without having to worry about unruly movement or discomfort, as people often experience with dentures.
How Is the Dental Implant Procedure Performed?
Dr. Hagerty uses state of the art imaging and software to digitally plan your implant surgery before it even begins. Combining 3D x-rays and intraoral scans, the dental implant location is decided upon after studying the width and length of your jaw bone. Once you arrive at the office, a small surgical stent is seated in your mouth telling Dr. Hagerty exactly where to place your new implant fixture, which is a very small titanium screw. This titanium screw is accepted by your bone and integrates over a period of three to six months.
Once healing is complete, we are ready to build a new tooth on top. Utilizing digital impressions, a custom crown is made and is connected to your implant using something called an abutment. With the help of digital dentistry, our office in Norridge, IL is committed to providing an implant procedure that is precise, efficient, and painless!
What is Recovery From Implant Surgery Like?
Using a reliable pain management protocol that has been tried and tested for over a decade, recovery from implant surgery is generally very predictable and manageable. While we do request you allow for some downtime the day of surgery, most patients do not experience any significant disruptions to their regular schedules.
